Akura Pappu

Here comes the other simple yet famous dish, Akura Pappu, Pappu is famous in most Telugu speaking home, where any kind of spinach is cooked in Toor dal(pappu) with blend of curry leaves and hind flavor.

It also provides the nutritional benefits of dal, which is great for those looking for something tangy with mild spice that AP foods are known for. It goes well with cooked rice.

Process time : 20 minutes




Total time : 25 minutes


Ingredients:

  • Spinach - 1 bunch

  • Toor dal - 1/4 cup

  • Onion - 1

  • Tomato - 2

  • Green chili - 3

  • Garlic - 6

  • Tamarind - 1 inch

  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp

  • Curry leaves - 1 string

  • Water - 1 cup

  • Ground nut oil - 2 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Clean and wash the spinach leaves well and keep aside

  2. in a pan/cooker take toor dal and wash it, add chopped spinach

  3. Now add chopped onion, tomatos, garlic, green chili, tamarind

  4. Then add cumin seeds, turmeric powder

  5. Add required water with a drop of oil (to make the spinach to cook faster)

  6. Cover and cook for 3 whistles

  7. Once the steam is out, remove the lid, then mush it well with the smasher by adding required salt in it

  8. In a pan add groundnut oil

  9. Once oil is heated add mustard seeds, allow it to crack

  10. Then add curry leaves, add this tadka to the smashed spinach, mix it

  11. Now boil the spinach for 10 minutes with required water consistency

  12. Serve hot with white rice
