Chainsoo from Indian State Utharakhand

'Chainsoo’ is a flavorful and protein-rich Pahari dish originating from the hill regions of India, particularly Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. It’s a lentil-based curry that showcases the resourcefulness of Pahari cuisine using locally available ingredients.

Course : Main Dish

Cuisine : Indian

Prep time : 10 minutes

Process time : 10 minutes

Total time : 20 minutes

Ingredients: 

  • Black Urad Dal - 1/4 cup

  • Red chili - 2

  • Garlic - 4

  • Coriander seed powder - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/4

  • Salt - as per taste

  • Oil - 3 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Dry roast, black urad dal, once cool down, grind to coarse powder and keep aside

  2. In a pan, add oil, once heated add chopped garlic and red chili, sauté until aromatic

  3. Then add coriander seeds powder and salt as per taste

  4. Now add coarse black urad dal powder and sauté them well

  5. Add required water and boil for 2 minutes

  6. Serve hot
