Jhangora Ki kheer from Indian State Utharakhand

Jhangore ki Kheer of Uttarakhand is a delicious Pahari dessert recipe that is packed with flavors you can prepare in the comfort of your home. This Kumaon sweet dish tastes like milk, nuts, and jhangora, a type of millet.

Barnyard millet, also known as jhangora, is grown in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. It is thought to be one of humanity’s oldest foods. This millet is a gluten-free superfood that is highly nutritious and easily digestible.

Cuisine : Indian

Prep time : 10 minutes

Process time : 10 minutes

Total time : 20 minutes

Ingredients: 

  • Barnyard millet - 1 cup

  • Crushed jaggery - 1/2 cup

  • Milk - 1 cup

  • Almonds - 3 tsp

  • Ghee - 4 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Wash and soak barnyard millet for 1 hour, keep aside

  2. In a pressure cooker add ghee, crushed almonds and mix well until it turns brown and crisp

  3. Now add soaked barnyard millet and mix well

  4. Add required water and mix, cook for 4 whistles , once the pressure is out mash it well

  5. Then add required milk and powdered jaggery to it and mix well

  6. Boil for 10 minutes and serve hot
