Kadhi Badi

Kadhi or karhi is a dish popularly consumed in Bihar. It consists of a thick gravy or soup based on gram flour and may contain vegetable fritters called pakora, to which dahi (yogurt) is added to give it a bit of a sour taste. It is often eaten with cooked rice or roti.

Ingredients:

  • Gram flour - 1 cup

  • Curd - 1 cup

  • Chili powder - 1 tsp

  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp

  • Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp

  • Garam masala - 1/4 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

  • Baking soda - 1 tsp

  • Ajwain - 1 tsp

  • Salt - as per taste

  • Curry leaves - 1 string

  • Green chili - 1

  • Dried red chili - 2

  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

  • Mustard oil - 1 tsp

  • Water - as required

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl take gram flour, then add chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, ajwain and salt as per taste and mix

  2. Add water little and mix to a thick batter, then add baking soda and mix well

  3. In hot oil, add the batter in small balls and fry and keep aside

  4. In other bowl add curd, chopped green chili,turmeric powder and salt as per taste and mix well

  5. In tadka pan, add oil, once oil is heated add mustard seeds and curry leaves and allow them to crackle, then add mix curd into it and mix and boil for 1 minute

  6. Now add the fried pakoda into the curd and mix

  7. Again in the tadka pan, add oil the add dried red chili and chili powder and fry

  8. Pour this tadka on soaked pakoda and serve
