Sha Phaley from Indian State Sikkim

Shabhalep, also known as sha phaley, is a Sikkim and Tibetan dish of bread stuffed with seasoned meat and cabbage, which is then fashioned into semi-circular or circular shapes and which according to regional variations is either deep fried or pan fried like pot stickers.

Total time : 30 minutes

Ingredients: 

  • Wheat flour - 1 cup

  • Soya chunks or shredded chicken - 1/2 cup

  • Onion - 1

  • Coriander leaves - 1/2 bunch

  • Soya sauce - 1 tsp

  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp

  • Salt - as per taste

  • Oil - to fry

Instructions:

  1. Start kneading the dough by adding wheat flour & salt, mix, then add required water and form into soft dough, cover & keep aside

  2. In a pan add oil, sauté onion in it

  3. Then add soya chunks or shredded chicken to it and mix well

  4. Add coriander leaves, soya sauce, pepper powder & salt as per taste and sauté them well until it is done, keep aside

  5. Now take required size dough, roll out thin, apply soya chunks filling on it, cover & seal the corners

  6. Do this with rest of the dough

  7. Start shallow fry them, strain & serve hot
